Preventing a Miracle

We live in a time where people believe they can fix themselves. “I can handle this,” they say. Self‑help and self‑care dominate our culture. Even much of modern church life — whether evangelical, denominational, or anything in between — leans heavily on modern concepts of truth and ecumenical unity. But modern concepts rarely align with biblical ones. Ecumenical movements try to unify religions and denominations by minimizing doctrine, yet Scripture never models unity at the expense of truth.

Scroll through social media, listen to your favorite influencer, or even sit in many churches today, and you’ll find one thing in common: confusion.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ — One Lord, One Baptism — we must remember that Jesus never compromised with Pharisees or Baal worshippers. He associated with sinners, yes, but He preached repentance and faith in Himself. His ministry was a warning ministry. The Father Himself declared Him to be the Son of God, the sinless and perfect incarnation of the Word. When this truth is declared, nothing can stand against it. When this truth is meditated on, it changes the person.

But this truth is not taught much anymore. It still abides — and always will — but many are confused because they are deceived or have willingly chosen another way. Maybe both. Whether you blame apostasy, humanism, or cultural decay, the bottom line remains: Christ is the Answer.

If we forget that, we prevent miracles in our own lives. Scripture gives us a pattern — a way to walk, a way to discern, a way to remain anchored.

The Father Declares Christ’s Authority

Matthew 17:5 “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”

Peter, in his zeal, offered to build three tabernacles — one for Moses, one for Elijah, and one for Jesus. But God interrupted him. In a moment reminiscent of the pillar of cloud in the Old Testament, the Father declared Christ’s authority and commanded: hear Him.

Something to meditate on:

• Do you give Christ the authority in your life that the Father gave Him?

• Are you following Christ or simply following a teacher?

• Does the voice you listen to lead you toward Christ or toward confusion?

Christ Begins His Ministry With a Call to Repentance

Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Prophecy was fulfilled. The Messiah had come. Christ’s first message was simple: repent and believe.

Something to meditate on:

• Has your mind truly changed toward Christ?

• Does your belief produce obedience?

• If the kingdom is at hand, how should that shape your priorities?

Apostasy and Deception Were Foretold

2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first…”

A falling away from truth was prophesied. Deception would increase. The Antichrist would come.

Something to meditate on:

• Can you recognize deception when you hear it?

• Do you know Scripture well enough to discern truth?

• Are you drifting or standing firm?

People Will Reject Sound Doctrine

2 Timothy 4:3–4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine…”

Paul warned that people would prefer teachers who scratch their itch rather than teachers who preach truth.

Something to meditate on:

• Do you prefer teachers who challenge you or comfort your flesh?

• Are you drawn to truth or to fables?

• Do you endure sound doctrine?

You Cannot Serve Two Masters

Matthew 6:24 “No man can serve two masters…”

A believer cannot walk the narrow path while loving the world. A choice must be made.

Something to meditate on:

• Do you enjoy worldly things more than spiritual things?

• How do you tell the difference?

• Do you want to please God or men?

Christ Is the Only Way

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life…”

Christ is the exclusive path to the Father. He is the way for our journey, the truth for our minds, and the life for our souls.

Something to meditate on:

• Is Christ truly your way, or just one influence among many?

• Do you treat His words as truth or suggestions?

• Is your life rooted in Him or in yourself?

Christ Is Fully God

Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

All power, wisdom, and truth dwell in Christ.

Something to meditate on:

• If all fullness is in Christ, why look anywhere else?

• Do you trust His sufficiency or supplement Him with human ideas?

Christ Has All Authority

Ephesians 1:22–23 “And hath put all things under his feet…”

Christ rules His church and all creation.

Something to meditate on: • Does Christ rule your decisions? • Do you submit to His authority or negotiate with it?

The Solution: Returning to the Pattern

Confusion increases wherever the Word of God decreases. When believers drift from Scripture, they drift from Christ Himself. When churches drift from Christ, they lose both clarity and power.

God did not leave us without a remedy. He gave us a pattern — a way to stand firm in an age of deception.

That pattern is found in Paul’s charge to Timothy.

2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”

This is how believers, pastors, and churches remain anchored when the world drifts.

For the church: The Word must have preeminence — not trends, not personalities. Truth must expose error, call out sin, and encourage holy living.

For the pastor: He must shepherd with Scripture as his authority, not culture. He guards the flock with doctrine, patience, and courage.

For the church member: The Word preached on Sunday must be lived on Monday — in the home, workplace, and relationships.

For the believer: Obey Scripture by joining one of the Lord’s churches through believers’ baptism and submitting to the pattern God established.

If the Word of God is not used, it cannot have preeminence. The author holds that the King James Bible is the Word of God for English‑speaking people. God is not the author of confusion — the devil is. Hundreds of Bible versions that do not agree create confusion. Textual criticism is something all believers should understand.

Churches, pastors, members, and believers must follow the pattern:

• Reprove — identify sin using truth

• Rebuke — bring sin to attention

• Exhort — encourage repentance and restoration

The church to the world. The pastor to the member. The members to the family.

The Lord gave us a pattern. If we believe in Him, we recognize His divinity, His authority, and the holiness of His Word. He proves Himself to all who come to Him — in salvation and sanctification. If we love Him, we keep His commandments.

Take your eyes off false teachers, movements, philosophies, and corrupted bibles. Truth stands up to God’s Word and continues in it. Scripture is our mirror to judge what is worthy of our time and attention.

Don’t prevent a miracle in your life — let God perform one.

Revelation 5:12 “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”
